Thanksgiving, tucked between Halloween and Christmas (this year on the 29th of November),is a very important holiday in the USA . It is a time to relax and enjoy a huge meal. It’s also time to give thanks for the good things that have happened to the American nation.
The first Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Pilgrims and the Indians in
1621and it went on for three days. Life for the early settlers was difficult
and so the first harvest was time for celebration. And so the Pilgrims
and the Indians created a huge feast including a wide variety of animals and
fowl, as well as fruits and vegetables. This is why even today it is celebrated
with a huge meal, usually with turkey as the centre piece. Then, to top it off,
Americans eat pumpkin pies, apple pies, an even mince meat pies.
*Dzień Dziękczynienia – święto obchodzone w
Stanach Zjednoczonych w czwarty czwartek listopada, a w Kanadzie w drugi
poniedziałek października, jako pamiątka pierwszych dożynek mieszkańców kolonii Plymouth w 1621 roku.
